Pendant lamps above your dining table
Still in the dark?
The best lighting above the dining table combines functionality with atmosphere.
Choose a pendant lamp that gives off warm white light (2700K-3000K) to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Dimmable lamps are ideal: they provide bright light while eating or working, and can be dimmed for a relaxing evening.
Also consider a lamp with a closed base or diffuser to prevent glare.
A pendant lamp above the dining table should ideally be hung 60-70 cm above the table top, whereby you can go a little higher for higher ceilings or a large table and a little lower for smaller tables to create more atmosphere. Make sure the lamp hangs in the middle above the table; with long tables, several pendant lamps or an elongated beam lamp are often nicer and better distributed. Always turn off the power before you start, mount a sturdy ceiling hook or ceiling cap and connect the wires correctly.

The size of the lamp depends on the dimensions of your table. A handy rule of thumb:
- Length of the lamp: about 2/3 of the length of the table.
- Diameter for round tables: choose a lamp 30-50 cm smaller than the table.
- With several small lamps (such as a cluster or row of pendants): make sure they are visually balanced together with the table.
For dining room tables, a luminous intensity of 300-500 lumens per square meter is ideal. This depends on the size of the room and the type of activities at the table.
Combine with indirect lighting in the room for extra atmosphere. Dimmable LED lamps are a smart choice: energy-efficient and flexible in brightness.
