By Floris / March 4, 2024
Want to learn how to assemble a wall lamp and even attach a plug to it? No worries, we have the perfect manual for you!
With our step-by-step instructions and a few essential tools such as a voltage detector, screwdriver, and stripper, you can easily complete this job.
How do you attach a plug to your wall lamp?
You might have spotted a beautiful wall sconce, but the perfect spot just doesn’t have a light outlet. Don’t panic—it’s very easy to attach a cable to your wall sconce, and anyone can do it!
All you need is:
- A connection cable
- A screwdriver
- A file
Take the connecting cable and connect it to the terminal block in the wall lamp. You do this by connecting the blue and brown wire to the same color in the terminal block. If you want the wall lamp to fit tightly to the wall after this, you can file or drill a groove in the lamp's connection cap. Hang the wall lamp on the bracket and plug it into the wall outlet. And voila, you can now hang your wall lamp almost anywhere, even without a light fixture!

Instructions
In general, most lamps follow the same roadmap. Please note, there can always be exceptions. Review the appropriate instructions for your specific lamp at the bottom of this page.
- Turn off the power
Make sure you turn off the power before you get started installing your lamp. You do this by turning off the power to the group to which the lamp's connection point is connected. Use a voltage detector to check that there is no longer any voltage on the wires. If the light on the voltage detector is not lit, the power is completely off. - Attach the mounting bracket
Make sure there is a connection in the place where you want to place the wall light. Using a screwdriver, detach the mounting bracket from the fixture and screw it to the wall in conjunction with the screw plugs. After securing the mounting bracket, place the fixture over the mounting bracket and screw the fixture to it. This is usually done with two screws on the side of the mounting bracket. - Attach the electrical wires to the terminal block
Now we are going to attach the electrical wires. You start by stripping the electrical wires. This means removing the plastic around the wire. Using the stripper, strip 0.5 cm of the brown and blue wire bare. The terminal block has two or three openings. Two of them are for the brown and blue wire. It does not matter which wire is connected where. In the middle is often another opening for the ground wire (the yellow-green wire). If your wall light is grounded, attach this wire to the terminal block as well. Insert the wires into the openings and screw them on with a screwdriver. - Attach the fixture
Attach the wall light to the mounting bracket. Usually you do this by tightening the lamp's terminal cover to the mounting bracket with two screws on the side. - Tighten the bulb
Screw the bulb of the wall lamp into the socket. Often there is no bulb included with the pendant lamp. The packaging of the lamp will tell you what kind of light source you need. On our website you can find and purchase the right light source. Place the shade over the wall lamp if applicable. Then put the power back on and check if your lamp works. Voilà, you have hung your wall lamp yourself!
