How do you attach a ceiling tile?
By Floris / March 19, 2024
Lampandlight sells ceiling plates in different colors and sizes. These ceiling plates are designed to mount multiple lamps. This is the ideal solution for a sleek looking ceiling.
You can work the wiring for the lamps neatly under the ceiling tile and easily hang multiple lamps together.
Supplies
To do this job easily, you need at least this tool:
- A impact drill
- A screwdriver
- Screws, nuts and plugs
- The lamps you want to hang
- A screwdriver
Instructions
1. Turn off the power
Before you start hanging the lamps from the ceiling tile, turn off the power. The group to which the connection point of the lamps is connected is enough. Check that there is no more current on the wires with a voltage detector. If the light on the voltage detector is not lit, there is no more current on the wires.
2. Remove the ceiling caps from the lamps
If you are going to hang lamps from a ceiling plate, you no longer need the ceiling caps on the lamps. You attach the lamps directly to the ceiling plate with the cable. Therefore, start by removing the ceiling caps from the lamps you want to hang and also loosen the terminal blocks.
3. Drill holes in the ceiling tile
At the locations where you want to attach the lamps to the ceiling tile, drill holes the size of the lamp's cable into the ceiling tile. Thread the lamp's cable through these and secure the lamp to the inside of the ceiling tile with a nut. Repeat for all lamps.
4. Connect the lamps.
Using the power point from the ceiling, you will supply power to the ceiling tile. It depends on how many lights you want to hang from the plate, but you will need to connect them together so they all get power.
- You can do this by connecting all the electrical wires from the lamps to one terminal block. Then put all the blue wires in one of the openings of the terminal block and all the black ones in the other.
- Should it not be possible to connect all lamps to 1 terminal block, you can loop the lamps to each other with a few extra power wires and a screwdriver. From the first connector, connect a new blue and black wire to the next connector. You can repeat this operation as many times as you want. You can then connect a lamp to each terminal. If the spotlight is grounded, you must also loop the ground wire (the yellow-green wire) to the terminal or spotlight. The ground wire goes into the middle opening of the terminal block.
This allows you to power multiple lamps with a single ceiling connection.
5. Attach the ceiling tile to the ceiling
Drill a hole on both sides of the ceiling tile. Drill holes in the ceiling at the same distance and insert plugs. Screw the screws to the ceiling. Done, you have hung your lamps from a ceiling tile!
